BattleshipSaw it today. It was a good, fun movie. Nothing incredible. Nothing on par with the Avengers by any means, but it was fun. I do suggest going to see it. It's not transformers at sea as a lot of people have been griping about but is a fun flick and shows a modern fight at sea very well.
And yes, we have no battleships currently in service but the movie addresses this. Quite touching how they went about it.
For those who have seen it:

I honestly found myself skwirming a little when the destroyers were being torn apart by direct hits because I'd imagined our thin skinned ships these days not lasting too long in a fire fight with something that has bigger guns. I served on a cruiser, but this movie showed me how important it is to have more then one big gun on deck. Kind of useless if you lose it and your missile abilities are gone. However, I think, and largely because of todays demographic it didn't happen this way, that a more appropriate movie to be named Battleship would have been an actual movie about a real even. Say the battle with the Bismark, or the battle of Leyte Gulf where the Yamato reaked havoc. But we probably will never see such movies because Hollywood has to sell to a group of people who have no idea about these things and really aren't interested (unfortunately
) about history.
That may be the inebriated part of me talking . That said, I would really like to see a movie around those two battles.
Or we can have a fictional engagement between an Iowa class BB and the Yamato. I would settle for that.
That said, the movie was still good and a really fun watch. Give it a try and stop judging from the reviews that are out there trying to portray the movie in a negative light because honestly it seems to me these days people are paid to make some movies shine and others look terrible in their reviewing ways...
...I'm rambling aren't I?
Sorry
